Beer

Cask

Cask ales are a thing of beauty and one of life’s great pleasures. It is a traditional British way of making and serving beer. It is served at 53°F and is less carbonated. The flavors are more forward.  We change our cask offering very regularly.

 

 

Dad’s Stout  on cask  $5/Pint

This is the kind of beer you want to have with your Dad. It’s a classic stout with lots of roasty malts. Dark, delicious and easy to drink. A pint of stout is such a joy. And a pint of stout on the beer engine will make you think you died, went to heaven and got a stout.

 

 

Light and Easy

 

Golden Number Ale  $5/Pint

Golden ales are a delicate balance of malt and hops. To achieve this perfect balance, the ratio of malt and hops is based upon the actual golden number, the Fibonacci Sequence, or Phi as the Greeks knew it. We brew it floor-malted Extra Pale Maris Otter grown on the eastern coast of England. You can almost taste the salt air in the malt.

 

Venus Belgian White Ale  $5/Pint

It is named after Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love (aka, Aphrodite, Ishtar). This beer seems to have a mesmerizing effect on those who imbibe. There are 4 children who have entered this world solely because of this beer. Four that we know of. Many more attempts have been made.

We brew it with malted wheat, unmalted wheat and a touch of oats. The unmalted wheat gives it a starchy, cloudy, almost milky appearance (that’s how the style got its name ‘white’). We use fresh orange peels that we zest by hand and freshly ground coriander, which we grind by hand.

 

Victorian English Ale  $5/Pint

This is a classic English-style ale. We were fortunate enough to get a hold of some incredible heritage barley, the Chevallier variety, that was grown in England in the 1800s and was highly sought after. It was cross bread in the early 1900s and all but disappeared. Fortunately the seed was preserved and for the first time in over 100 years they are growing this beautiful barley once again. Together with the classic English East Kent Golding hop, which imparts a nice flowery aroma, and a yeast from an old Yorkshire brewery, which adds a beautiful cherry and peach note, it is a simple beer, yet remarkable in its subtlety.

Oktoberfest Lager $6.95/half-liter Stein

We wait all year for this beer! It is a traditional German Oktoberfest lager brewed with all German barley, European noble hops, and has been lagered - or conditioned – for almost three months. It has an amber color and a smooth, beautiful, soft maltiness from the German barley. Prost!

Saison DuFive $5/Schwenker

This is a classic version of a Saison. Saisons are a Belgian farmhouse style ale. Simple, light in color, refreshing, yet amazingly complex. Brewed with 100% Belgian pale malt which has a nice breadiness, yet pale in color. The European hops add a touch of floral and spice notes. But the saison yeast is the star of the show with a myriad of exotic spice flavors, tropical fruit, notes of peach, grape, apricot and even an earthy mustiness.

 

Hoppy and Refreshing

Blanket IPA  $6.50/Pint

We blanketed this American IPA with lots of different hops to cover the full spectrum of hop flavors – from tropical fruits, to citrus, pine and spices. Flavors of passion fruit, pineapple, lime, grapefruit, peach, mango, and pine are woven into the fabric of this beer. We hopped it in the kettle with Nelson, an experimental variety named X-517, Centennial, Sorachi Ace, Simcoe, Citra, Azacca and Callista,  then dry hopped it with Chinook, Huell Melon and more Nelson. So curl up under the blanket and grab an IPA now that the cold weather has set in!

Passionfruit IPA $6.50/Pint

This is our IPA with passionfruit added right into the keg. 

Milkshake IPA $6.50/pint
Ooooo, this is nice. We added fresh blood orange, vanilla and a bit of milk sugar to our IPA. Yes, it’s tasty.

 

Fuller-Bodied Big Beers

 

Electric Goat Maibock Lager $6.95/half-liter Stein

This beer takes almost three months to make. It is brewed with German barley, German hops and a German lager yeast. It is smooth. We lager it at cold temperatures for an extended period of time to develop smooth and rounded flavors. It is medium bodied with a nice malt character and has a slight toasted, caramel note. The sign of a well made bock is when you finally get off your bar stool to take a leak, you fall down. Deceptively strong.

Seeing Dubbel $8.95/Schwenker

This medium-bodied, red to dark brown colored Belgian-style ale has a malty sweetness and chocolate-like  caramel aroma.  A  light hop flavor and aroma is acceptable. Yeast-generated fruity esters are appropriate at low levels.

 

Indian Trippel (French Oak Barrel-Aged)    Vintage 2/5/14     $9.95/Schwenker

Belgian Trippels are such a beautiful style of beer; elegant, golden in color, both easy to drink and potent all at the same time. For this one we made a Belgian candi syrup out of palm sugar then lightly spiced it with cardamom, Indonesian black pepper and Indian coriander. We aged it in our French oak barrel which adds oak, vanilla and just enough tannin to lend structure.  It has aged in our cellar for almost 4 years. With time the spices have faded, but are still present, while some exotic fruit flavors have emerged and blended beautifully with those from the Belgian yeast. A must try.

Dark and Delicious

Yorkshire Brown Ale $5/Pint

Simple yet beautiful. This traditional yeast from Yorkshire adds some beautiful peach and cherry flavors to this brown ale, while the English pale malt and several different specialty malts add depth and color. We smoked just a wee bit of the barley over cherry wood too as it complements the cherry from the yeast and the subtle smokiness works nicely with the darker grains. Cheers.

 

Brexit Porter $5/Pint

Porters are such a wonderful style of beer. Sturdy but drinkable, dark, smooth and tasty. Ours is a traditional London porter and is dark brown in color. It has a slight roast flavor with toffee, bready, nutty flavors. The English yeast adds lovely fruit flavors.

Nitro

Dad’s Stout on Nitro  $5/Pint

This is the kind of beer you want to have with your Dad. It’s a classic stout with lots of roasty malts. Dark, delicious and easy to drink. The nitrogen adds a nice creamy texture.

 

Gluten Free!

Elmers Gluten Free  $5/Pint

A light and refreshing buckwheat and sorghum based beer. Fairly hoppy with a citrus nose.  Best gluten free beer you will ever  taste.
